Interest Groups
Fairford Archive Group
The Fairford Archive Project has been set up by the Archiving Group of the Fairford History Society. The purpose of the Archive
is to record material about Fairford to provide a forum for those interested in history generally and in the local history of Fairford
and the surrounding district. Although a collection is being gathered together, the principal aim is to make a permanent record of
material on Fairford. At present items fall mainly into the six categories opposite.
All the items are being catalogued. Advice was sought from the Corinium Museum on the details to be recorded and a cataloguing
form has been devised for use by archivists, these forms are then used to transfer data onto the database.

- Books whether presently available or not. For example the book Fairford Graves by William Wylie published in 1852 about the
Anglo- Saxon Burial Ground has very limited availability but we have digitally scanned a copy and it is now available on the Archive
as a research tool. Some of the books are available from the Gloucestershire Library Service. A small collection of basic books about
Fairford is also being collected.
- Postcards a few belong to the Society but most have been borrowed and recorded.
- Photographs as above.
- Newspaper cuttings.
- Ephemera i.e. advertisements, maps, pictures etc. these may be photocopies.
- Oral history interviews and talks given to the Society. These are stored on gold CDs with copies for general use.
